Ronson is one of the great historic names in lighter manufacturing, with roots going back to Louis V. Aronson’s Art Metal Works in Newark, New Jersey, in the late 19th century. Originally known for decorative metalware, the company soon became a pioneer in the development of practical and beautifully designed lighters.
In 1913, Ronson introduced the Wonderlite pocket lighter, followed by the revolutionary Banjo in 1928 – an automatic lighter that could be ignited and extinguished with a single action. Over the following decades, Ronson became one of the world’s best-known lighter brands, combining clever mechanics with distinctive American design.
Without doubt, the most iconic Ronson model is the Varaflame, introduced in the 1950s. The Premier Varaflame in particular, with its unmistakable design, became a true lighter classic and a symbol of Ronson’s golden era. Combining elegant mid-century styling with an adjustable gas flame, the Varaflame was sold around the world and became one of the models most closely associated with the Ronson name. The Premier Varaflame remains in production today, carrying forward the classic Ronson design that continues to appeal to both users and collectors.
Today, Ronson continues to offer a range of refillable lighters inspired by more than a century of lighter-making heritage and experience.
At The Danish Pipe Shop, our relationship with Ronson goes beyond selling new lighters. We also have extensive experience with vintage Ronson lighters, and our workshop can service and repair many of the classic models.
